Journal #4: The Presidential Election 2012

The Highlights to Last Night's Election

I read an article on what viewers of the 2012 presidential election liked best about the election coverage. This review was done by the A.V. Club and I found it really fascinating actually. I watched the election last night, as did millions of other curious Americans to see who would be their president for the next four years. I found some of the new technology used to show the public who was winning each state in the Electoral College to be quite interesting. I really liked how CNN used the skating rink outside of 30 Rock into a giant map of the United States and then filled in each state with the appropriate colors as the results came in.

I mainly just watched CNN, because of its statistic and informative and not biased background. However, I did watch Fox News too. I liked how you could see the same information shown to the American public in an aggressive manner. Whether you are either conservative or liberal, I found it entertaining watching the panelists create little concealed digs and comments as the results were given. I found that Todd VanDerWerff noticed the same impression with Fox. VanDerWerff stated that Megyn Kelly appeared to be an overly obsessive news analyst in the way she questioned after the election called for Obama to win the election.

I found it funny how Nathan Rabin commented in the article by saying, “There’s a whole lotta weed on the ballot. I thought this was really funny considering the group I watched the election results said the same thing during the election. He stated that he found it funny to hear the phrase “whole lotta weed” emerging from the newsman Brian Williams. As funny as it may be, it is nothing but the truth in this year’s election. I also found it hilarious how Josh Modell talked about watching Rachel Maddow from NBC dreaming up conspiracy theories as Romney took the early lead. Which proved to be unnecessary in the end, but was never the less an interesting part of last night ruckus.

  1. I was also impressed with the differnt technologies that were used to cover the election. I was also humored by the amount of speculation form both sides. In the end tho, I was impressed with the coverage.
